Sculpting in Space is the first complete account of Ramesh Bisht's life and art, written by his old Lucknow friend and the eminent art critic Vinod Bhardwaj. Drawing on years of interviews with the artist, his family and his colleagues, and bringing together rare photographs and a generous selection of his drawings, the book traces the long creative journey from a remote hill village in Garhwal to a place among India's notable modern sculptors.
It is a portrait of both the man and the work: the childhood among the mountains, the brotherhood and rivalry of the Lucknow art world, the struggle to make a life as a sculptor in Delhi, and the decades of exhibitions and public commissions that followed. Along the way it gathers the voices of the critics who tracked his career in The Times of India, The Hindu, The Indian Express and the leading Hindi journals, and lets Ramesh speak in his own unmistakable voice.
